Very happy with this humidifier January 8, 2009 It looks great, is very quiet, and the filter seems to be lasting a lot longer than my last humidifier. It also monitors the humidity in the room and shuts off automatically when it's reached your setting.
Works for me January 3, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have had this unit for almost two months now. It is quiet, mist is not visible and does not wet any surfaces around the unit. I use filtered water only so thus far I notice that the filter inside the unit is still white.
My home has baseboard heating so it does get pretty dry in the winter months. I have noticed that the unit has helped me since I do not have the itchy nose and dry eyes syndrome! Static electricity seems to have been reduced as well. This is telling me that the unit is doing the job it is meant for.
I purchased this unit on impulse from Wally's World (gasp, yes Wally World has infiltrated LI as well) since the unit was substantially priced lower.
Free shipping and no tax and the great prior purchase experiences from Amazon.com is also a good reason to recommend this product to be purchased from Amazon.com
Update 11/25/08 With the second winter season upon us I am reporting that this unit worked without any issues last year and hope for similar performance. The shape (nice sloped design) of the tank needs attention when it is being filled with water so it does not slip from your hands and wind up crashing to the floor. I used filtered water and had no mineral deposit or mold issues at all. Thus far this season I found the best prices for the filter (9 change) and cartridges (6 change) at Targ*t.
This is a fine Humidifier - I disagree with the Negative Review November 24, 2008 I was surprised to see the negative review on this unit. I have had this unit for the past month and it works as advertised. The unit provides decent moisture, is very quiet and takes a lot of dust out of the air. The only concern might be long term costs due to the consumables ( Air Filters, Protec Cartridges)but over all I'm pretty satisfied with the Honeywell HCM-631.
Excellent humidifier with class! December 12, 2008 I liked this Humidifier so much I purchased two more! I do have to fill them morning and night but they have relieve the dry air in my house as I wanted, no more static elec. and dry cough.
One of these units takes care of my large family room with it's cathedral ceiling and is heated with a wood stove! AND takes care of my large attached kitchen that is filled with plants that need the humidity!
I also like that it is black with some class so it does not stand out like a "Humidifier" does! Why do they make them white anyway? Do you really want people comeing into your home as their eyes are drawn right to a brilliant white mechanism?
I have not witnessed it's auto shutoff when empty which is probably why i gave it only the 4 stars. I don't know what is supposed to shut off, don't care, I like the item and have had it for several weeks now.
Older model but very similar December 16, 2008 I have an older model of this unit which doesn't have the air filter.
I agree about the design of the water tank. It is silly. I haven't dropped it yet but seems like every time I fill it I might.
Other than that, it works great. A tank lasts about 7 hours on full. Much longer if it is dialed back.
My recommendation for long life of this unit is to buy a bottle of CLR. About every 4 or 5 tanks, take the unit apart and pour a little CLR on the pad and heating element. Let it soak for 15 minutes, then rinse. I have used the same filter pad for 1.5 years. I still have the other 2 new ones that came in the box.
