Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
With its trim design and versatile programming, this Bionaire digital tower fan is a welcome alternative to bulky standard models. Designed to stand on the floor, the fan cools and circulates effectively, thanks to its high-performance centrifugal blades and a bi-directional louver that distributes air well with minimal turbulence. The control panel is streamlined and includes a digital thermostat, selectable oscillation, and three speeds. The fan's 16-hour timer is especially helpful--it can be programmed to turn the motor on or off in one-hour intervals. Bionaire also includes a remote control for added convenience. Some assembly is required. --Emily Bedard

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Tower Fan   January 5, 2007
I had a tower fan but it stopped working and I needed another one but could not find one. So I sent for the Dual Direction Digital Tower fan and was so happy to receive it. It was much better than my old one, and much more than I expected. It is quiet, works great, cools off instantly and the price was right. I may get another one. Whoever buys one of these fans will not be dissappointed. It blows a big breeze and cools things off but when I don't need it it stores away easy. Thankyou for selling such a good product.

This is great for keeping me cool when other people in our house adjust the thermostat!

Who would have thought of the technology innovations that could be applied to fans? This model requires some assembly - and you'll need to pay careful attention to the directions, which is a large folded page. Read the instructions, look carefully at the pieces, and the assembly will take less than five minutes. All you'll need is a screw driver.

The fan itself it a remarkable piece of technology, made all the more remarkable by the fact that it comes with a remote control at such a low price.

When you first operate it you'll think something's wrong because it will oscillate, stop and seem to shut down, then pick up again. This is normal, and after you get used to it you will discover that this behavior was designed to move air in the most efficient manner - both from an efficient use of electricity, and from an effective pattern for moving air and keeping you cool.

The on-fan and remote controls are easy to operate and give you a great deal of control over speed, oscillation, and even timing its turn-on time. Considering the price, performance and wealth of features this is one of the best bargains you'll find - and worth any price on a humid, hot Florida night when you are enjoying fresh air on your patio.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy Holmes   August 20, 2004

These fans are overpriced, loud pieces of cheap plastic. I had it for one night and chose to sleep with it off rather than put up with the rattling and squeeking. The plastic is so cheap it feels like it's going to break while you put it together. Funny enough, these fans do well because they're more expensive than others - people assume they're the best because they're the most expensive. I highly recommend going for the $40 envirocare fan - it's solid, it's quiet, and it has an air filter built in.

1 out of 5 stars Poor construction and quality   July 19, 2004

I purchased this fan from Amazon several months ago and it is already in the garbage. The assembly is very easy and only requires a few moments and a phillips screwdriver. Unfortunately the plastic is very flimsy and thin and does not inspire confidence in the overall quality. The fan operated very well initially and the remote control was intuitive and easy to operate. Within a few weeks, however, the fan was making high pitched squealing sounds (imagine an old fan belt on a cold winter morning). I tried all the different speeds and settings, turing off the oscillation, positioning the fan on different surfaces, etc. Nothing fixed the problem.

I've never considered myself a high-maintenance consumer, but this purchase was very disappointing. I'd recommend one of the other brands or models, though many of the oscillating tower fans seem to have this same complaint. I have had good luck with Holmes products in the past (although this model carries the Bionaire tag), but I'd like to prevent other customers from the trouble I experienced with this model. Hope this helps.
