Product Description The Back-UPS RS offers high performance protection for your business and office computer systems. It provides abundant battery backup power, allowing you to work through medium and extended length power outages. It also safeguards your equipment from damaging surges and spikes that travel along utility, phone and network lines. A distinguishing feature of the Back-UPS RS is automatic voltage regulation (AVR). AVR instantly adjusts both low and high voltages to safe levels, so you can work indefinitely during brownouts and overvoltage situations, saving the battery for power outages when you need it most. Award-winning shutdown software automatically powers down your computer system in the event of an extended power outage.

Good Backup December 27, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace an APC XS1000 that had a battery die after 6 years. I am getting it a new battery and different use. The display was the main reason for the upgrade, and a good price. Just to make it clear to everyone up front the BR1500LCD and BX1500LCD are the same. As someone else stated here after some digging. BR and BX has differences only in the non LCD versions. Here is my APC chat.
Manju: Hi, how may I help you? Robert: I ordered a apc rs1500lcd and received a xs1500lcd from a vendor. They say they are the same. Is this true or does the rs have more features on the LCD models. The FAQ does not say. Manju: Robert, both the unit are same. XS series is for retail sales only, and it is not listed on the APC web site. But you would avail all the warranty benefits and services as any other Unit which is sold from APC directly. Robert: so niether has the TRIM ability? Robert: only BOOST? Manju: Robert, please hold a moment. Robert: okay, thanks Manju: Robert, both the units have Boost Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR). Robert: Okay, thanks. Manju: You are welcome!! Manju: Is there any thing else I can assist you with? Robert: Nope. thanks for your help. Manju: Goodbye and have a nice day!!
I have 6 APC UPS of varying types and they run fine. See Ocampo's review for a more in depth review.
Very Solid Unit December 21, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Very good unit. The BR1500LCD and the BX1500LCD are identical in every way. The differing model numbers are merely a way for APC to distinguish distribution outlets. Neither the BR1500LCD, listed here, nor the BX1500LCD has the TRIM feature, although they both do have the BOOST feature. Again, both models are identical in every respect.
This is a lot of unit! Potential purchasers may wish to consider if they need this much UPS. I have a Pentium quad core running 4 large hard drives with an Nvidea 8600 GTS card, a 750 watt power supply and a 22 inch LCD monitor connected. My router is also attached as is my back up hard drive. In all, the unit shows I'm pulling a little over 200 watts at computer idle; a much lower draw than I anticipated.
Obviously I have a lot of room to add if necessary, and at idle loads I have about 20 minutes of back up time, but you should consider what your power needs are. Although this unit has a relatively compact physical footprint, it is a powerful unit with a quality build.
I'm happy with it. February 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this UPS to maintain clean power and for graceful shutdowns during blackouts after a power problem that fried 2 of my hard drives at once (smoke came out!!). It could have just been my power supply that caused it, but I'm not taking any chances.
My hard drive setup was only redundant for losing 1 hard drive at once (raid 5) so I lost data. :( To help prevent this from happening again I bought a PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR power supply (http://www.amazon.com/PC-Power-Cooling-Turbo-Cool-1KW-SR/dp/B000VMPGDS) and this UPS.
I'll never buy anything but the best power supply nor go without a UPS again after my toasted hard drive experience.
Anyways, back to the review: My only complaint is that the idle power draw from my computer (quad core processor (Intel QX6700), 2x Nvidia 8800 GTX graphics cards, etc.) + my 37 inch LCD screen is about 490 watts. That means I get about 7-8 minutes of power before the battery is depleted. That's enough time to serve for a graceful shutdown and to survive random power fluctuations, but not any time to actually use the PC during a real blackout.
But that's just the nature of battery power.
So I still give this 5 stars for the great realtime LCD and software. There is a Windows Vista enabled version of the PowerChute management software that can be downloaded from the APC website for free.
The software allows for tweaking a wide range of settings and even keeps a log of when the battery was used and why (overvoltage, undervoltage, blackout, and electrical noise. And you can even tweak when the battery should kick in based on an under/over volt range and electrical noise. Those features give it 5 stars for me. Without the software or LCD I'd give it 3 stars.
APC BR1500LCD UPS: works great with mac pro and more June 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been using this unit for about two months and have had one area wide power outage and also one tripped circuit breaker due to air conditioning in my old building. The unit worked exactly as expected! With out installing any software (the mac OS X recognizes the UPS as soon as you connect the USB cable) the computer was able to shut down automatically when needed, and recognized the APC was providing power. I had time to properly save my sessions and shut them down. I replaced a nice Tripp Lite 1000VA UPS system because I needed more power and I read the reviews on this one which were overall very positive. With the mac pro and a 20" LCD cinema display, I am also running a Pro Tools 003 Rack, a Mackie 1604 mixer, a modem, router, and external hard drive on the APC unit and it handles them all with room to spare. It also conditions the power going to these sensitive components. The LCD screen provides important information and is very easy to read. I highly recommend the APC BR1500LCD for those looking to protect a similar home studio set up.
Glad I got this one February 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm glad I read the reviews for this one on here. Like a previous reviewer explained, the retail units are different and don't handle power trims. I priced the RS unit at Fry's and it was $210 plus tax. This is a better unit and was delivered for less than what I could have bought retail.
